Apart from perfect intonation, a natural voice, stage presence and timing Jenny Evans has an immense repertoire that she has built up over the last 25 years of stage at her disposal. Not only the treasures of the Great American Song Book but also gems from totally different territories. And its here that she really shows what she’s capable of, leaving many other young jazz divas out in the rain. Jenny Evans is the only jazz vocalist who can take songs from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, by John Dowland (1563-1626) and Henry Purcell (1659-1695), Cole Porter’s Love For Sale, Django Reinhart’s Nuages and George Harrison’s Within You, Without You and present a programme that fits together so well that jumping across different centuries and styles sounds like the most natural thing on earth. Evans’s compelling voice, bedded in the sensitive arrangements of her band takes us on a journey through time.

Tobias Böcker, NR 12.09.03

Every note is just right and has a deliciously warm timbre; she leaves the fundamental harmonic structure of her songs intact. Yet, it is the elasticity of her phrasing, the way she stretches one syllable, speeds up another, the way she takes hold of a well-known tune and turns it into her own new personal song that makes Jenny Evans’s rendition special.

Stefan Henzt, Financial Times, / 00

Few singers of her generation know how to present standards so convincingly and with such variety. Not only the notes, also the atmosphere of each song are captured in a way that makes you want to listen, once again, to songs you thought had been done to death.

Mátyás Kiss, JazzZeitung, / 99

She’s better than ever. Her colourful harmonics and caressing phrasing, her vivacious scat and her gentle emotional intensity are all in perfect balance. Her clear, bright voice has taken on greater substance and developed into an even more expressive instrument, one which masterfully meets every emotional and expressive requirement of each composition.

Rolf Dombrowki, Süddeutsche Zeitung / 99

Phrasing, a creative use of the harmonic structures, running the gamut of vocal sound, the full interpretative arsenal of jazz singing is at Jenny Evans’s disposal. And - she is a captivating entertainer.

big, Fränkische Nachrichten / 97

With a sultry, crystalline voice, impeccable diction and a sense of pitch-perfect intonation that would make Ella Fitzgerald proud, Jenny Evans is the leading female singer in Germany.

Michael Walsh, Time Magazine 96

Scat must be her mother tongue.

Thomas Pruch, JazzZeitung / 94
